For over three decades, Center for Volunteer & Nonprofit Leadership (CVNL) has celebrated the extraordinary volunteers, leaders and nonprofit organizations that make Marin County stronger. The 33rd Annual Heart of Marin Awards is the county's largest nonprofit recognition event, bringing together hundreds of community members to honor the nonprofits, leaders, and volunteers who serve Marin County. Now in its thirty-third year, Heart of Marin will award $35,000 across eight awards categories, recognizing the achievements of our nonprofit community and the passionate individuals who dedicate their time and talent to serving them.


The Heart of Marin Awards are presented in the following categories:

Corporate Community Service
The Corporate Community Service Award will be presented to a business that has fostered and encouraged volunteerism and philanthropy among its employees.

Volunteer of the Year
The Volunteer of the Year Award and $5,000 for the recipient's nonprofit will be presented to an individual (other than a board member) who has provided exemplary volunteer service to a Marin County nonprofit organization.

Excellence in Board Leadership
The Excellence in Board Leadership Award and $5,000 for the recipient's nonprofit will be presented to an exceptional volunteer member of a Marin County nonprofit board of directors.

Excellence in Innovation
The Excellence in Innovation Award and $5,000 for the recipient's nonprofit will be presented to an individual, organization, or partnership that has developed new, creative, and effective strategies for advancing solutions to critical issues in our community.

Youth Volunteer of the Year
Up to five Youth Volunteer of the Year Awards of $1,000 each will be presented to full-time middle or high school students serving a Marin County nonprofit in the community, education, or faith environment.

Excellence in Leadership
The Excellence in Leadership Award and $5,000 for the recipient's nonprofit will be presented to an executive director who has demonstrated excellence in leadership and whose vision has inspired meaningful and lasting change benefiting the organization and community.

Achievement in Nonprofit Excellence
The Achievement in Nonprofit Excellence Award and $5,000 will be presented to an organization that has demonstrated exemplary service to their constituents and community.

Lifetime Achievement
The Lifetime Achievement Award and $5,000 for the recipient's nonprofit(s) will be presented to an individual who has made a positive and notable difference during their career by significantly contributing to address a cause, issue, or discipline.
