DANCÆ
Welcome to the first event of DANCÆ, a platform for artists and audience members alike to experiment, collaborate and reenvision the way they interact with and experience art.
Hosted by Studio Apelbaum, the evening is comprised of three different dance performances, including solo performances by Annick Schadeck and Soraya Schulthess as well as a special debut by the newly founded dance collective "Ballet Sur_real". Dancers from different stylistic backgrounds are invited to choreograph pieces incorporating the light installation "Cognitive Painting”, an installation piece conceptualized by Johnathan Apelbaum and his team.
We invite you to join us at the Studio for an evening of drinks, immersive performances and an afterparty with selected DJ's.
Doors open at 18:30, performances begin at 19:00.
Please note there are limited tickets available.
Evening Programming for Performances on the 4th & 5th of August, 2023
Have You What
"Have You What" deals with issues concerning consumerism as a social and economic order, one that encourages a never ending pursuit of material gain. In many ways social media has contributed to this ethos, by allowing users to stay in constant connectivity, leaving
many struggling to find personal contentment. Drawing from ideas in Buddhism (the life state of hunger - a relentless pursuit of fulfilling ones desires) the piece investigates these states of being and asks audience members to reflect on the pressures and complications brought about by these social impacts.
The Artist
Soraya Schulthess (@soraya.nmrk) is a dancer, who completed her training in classical ballet at the Bolshoi Ballet School in Moscow. She worked for several years at the Boris Eifman Ballet in Saint Petersburg and has toured internationally as a freelancer with dance companies throughout Europe. Her strong foundation in classical ballet informs her approach to dance repertoire, in recent years, however, she has become increasingly interested in exploring new movement patterns that extend beyond those found in classical ballet, and has since been working more intensively with contemporary and improvisational dance.

Ballet Sur_real
Ballet Sur_real (@ballet_sur_real) is a collective that showcases alternative ballet performances combining classical ballet with electronic music. The collective is comprised of professional ballet dancers who share a love for techno music and the culture that comes with it. By fusing two seemingly different worlds into one, they aim to exhibit classical dance to various communities and provide a platform for uniquely like-minded artists who wish to participate in this progressive movement. Focusing on intersectionality, the artists hope to touch all groups of people with their passion for dance, music, and freedom of expression.

DANCÆ
At its core, DANCÆ (@dancae_) is dedicated to producing and curating cross- sectional collaborations between contemporary art forms and dance. Each evening incorporates diverse elements - provoking thought and pushing the status quo. For performers, DANCÆ serves as a playground of creativity - a place to explore and experiment with new works by taking risks and embracing the unfamiliar. Our mission is to build a network of performers, musicians, visual artists, and new media artists, thereby fostering an ecosystem where creatives from diverse backgrounds are able to collaborate on productions.
