FACE PAINTING WITH CLAIRE

event_description_image_99255_1755543801_6aad5.jpg?_a=BAACd3DQ

We are delighted that Claire Cooper from Face Painting With Claire is taking up residence for our festive event! Make sure to follow her on the gram to see how talented she is. You can book tickets in advance when you check out. There are no time slots, so just head on over when you are ready and show your barcode.

IMPORTANT BOOKING INFORMATION: (THE NITTY GRITTY)

Please feel free to arrive early to browse our festive market stalls and have something delicious to eat and drink at BROWN & GREEN. Just head over to KATIE THE ELF (she's over 200 years old) and sign in 10 minutes before you are due to go in so we know you have arrived. If you have added the reindeer visit on to your booking, you will be given a magical golden coin that you can take to the pen to gain entry and meet

DASHER & DANCER!

If Father Christmas is running a little behind, Katie the Elf might send you to see the reindeer first or ask you to wait near by. If you have any questions or concerns, just ask!

*So Santa can see as many boys and girls as possible, we will have two grottos this year. We bet you didn't know he had a twin brother! (But let's just keep that between us...) There are 2 rooms and you will be guided by one of our elves into the appropriate one.

Buggies/prams will not be allowed into the grotto or the reindeer pen and as the grottos are above Brown & Green, there is sadly no wheelchair/disabled access. The reindeer pen however, is accessible. Do let us know if we can assist in any way.

The next bit is super important!

Please double check your booking and your diaries BEFORE paying to ensure your order is correct. Once booked, the time and dates CANNOT BE CHANGED.

As we are sure you’ll understand, Santa has a very busy schedule in his grotto and needs organisation, so we cannot make swaps once bookings have been made. Santa has a large number of children coming to visit, and this is to ensure that he gets all of his timings, secret info and names correct for his visits.

TICKETS ARE NON REFUNDABLE - however you may pass your tickets to a third party if you cannot attend. Please ensure they have the barcode for scanning upon entry.

FAQS

1. 'I just booked 3 tickets for the 10:10am spot but it's still on sale?'

That's right! Because there are tickets left for that time slot as we have 2 grottos. But fear ye not! Santa's elves have been doing this for centuries! The elves cannot predict how long a child will want to visit with Santa. Sometimes only for a minute or two, and sometimes for the entire 10 mins. No problem! We don't want anyone to feel rushed. If Santa is running a little behind, he will ask his elves to update you. This system ensures flow and that Father Christmas gets to see as many kids as possible.

If you have any questions or concerns, just ask one of the elves and they will do everything to ensure your visit creates a memory to last a lifetime!

2. Why is there no combined Santa & Reindeer ticket? The reason for this is because some guests might not want to have the reindeer experience. This way they can book their visit with Santa and skip the add on.

3. Can we see the reindeer before or after our visit with Santa? This is entirely up to you. If you want to see the reindeer first, then show up early. Just remember check in with Katie the Elf first to collect your golden coin to deposit at the reindeer entrance. Ticket holders can only enter the reindeer enclosure once. Re-admittance is chargeable. at £10 per person and subject to availability.

4. Can we pet and/or feed the reindeer? Yes of course...that is, if the reindeer feel like it. You can purchase reindeer food (moss) for £2 when you enter.

You cannot feed the reindeer anything else other than the food being sold. This is to safeguard their wellbeing. The handlers will monitor this and you may be asked to leave if you bring anything edible into the reindeer pen.

5. Can we take pictures with the reindeer? Yes, you can! But flash photography is NOT allowed. This can spook the reindeer and make them feel anxious.

REINDEER WELFARE AND SAFETY
Please read this carefully.

Both Brown & Green and Daniel Stockton Productions absolutely LOVE animals. The decision to hold this event took a very long time and an enormous amount of thought, consideration and care have gone into the planning to ensure both the safety of yourselves, and the reindeer. Just like us, reindeer are emotional creatures and feel things the same way we do. So we ask that you please follow some very simple and respectful rules:

1. No flash photography

2. No loud noises (nobody likes to be spooked...especially Dancer!)

3. Please do not bring any food or drink into the reindeer pen except for personal bottles of water. If you do, you may be asked to leave and might be denied re-entry.

4. When petting the reindeer, please do so gently. Parent please watch little ones so that they don't pull the reindeer's hair.

5. No pets are allowed. We understand that people bring their pets to the park, but they are not allowed in the pen whether on a lease or being held by the owner.

6. Please turn off mobile phones/music before entering so that we are respectful to both each other, and Dasher & Dancer.

7. No climbing on the steel gates. These are put in place to protect both parties. The reindeer will come to you if they feel like it, and most probably if you have a cup of delicious moss.

(This is a good time to mention that when the food runs out, there is no more. We don't want to over feed them!)

FOOD FOR THOUGHT

event_description_image_99255_1755551238_7b6c9.jpg?_a=BAACd3DQ

A little bit about the history of reindeer in the UK and abroad, and how we will protect these majestic animals during their residence in Mayow Park.

Reindeer are an endangered species. The next phase would be extinction.

• Reindeer were once native to Britain but the last records of wild ones date back to around 800 years ago. In 1952 two bulls and five cows were brought from Sweden to Scotland as an experiment. They thrived and were supplemented by yet more animals in their paddocks on the northern slopes of the Scottish Cairngorms.

• Reindeer farms in the UK are regulated to ensure the proper care and wellbeing of these amazing animals. These reindeer are protected and get to live a long and healthy life.

• Reindeer in the wild are vulnerable for the following reasons:

1. Climate change: Rising temperatures, more rain, and longer snow-free seasons are changing the Arctic's climate. These

changes affect the quality and quantity of food for reindeer.

2. Human development: Humans are encroaching on reindeer habitats by clearing forests for agriculture, industry, roads, and recreation.

3. Hunting and trapping: Reindeer are hunted for meat, clothing, bones, sinew, and antlers.

The decline of reindeer population:

1. Victoria Island, Canada: The Dolphin-Union caribou herd on Victoria Island has declined by 56% in the last 20 years.

2. Siberian tundra: Reindeer herds in the Siberian tundra are in decline.

3. Scotland: Reindeer disappeared in Scotland around 8,000 years ago, likely due to overhunting or habitat changes.

Efforts to help reindeer:

1. Some governments are protecting the forests where reindeer live.

2. Environmental groups are educating the public about reindeer and other wildlife.

3. The Wild Forest Reindeer LIFE project in Finland aims to improve habitats, increase genetic diversity, and reduce mortality.

This experience has been meticulously curated to help raise awareness and for some will be a once in a lifetime experience. These reindeer live a fantastic life on a farm in Essex in a clean and healthy environment and are registered with their very own veterinarian. We cannot wait to share the majestic beauty of these regal animals.
