Join The Data Lab, Scottish Enterprise, the Environmental Task Force, and Moriba Jah for an evening of discussing our stewardship of space and space environmentalism. In this relaxed chat, you'll hear about the work of the Environmental Task Force in making the space sector more sustainable from a Scottish perspective, plus famed astrodynamicist and space environmentalist Moriba Jah will reflect on his own experience and advocacy. The group will be discussing ways in which we can further raise the profile of Scotland as a leader in sustainable space and projects we could create collaboratively, globally, to ensure we take care of our world.
Moriba Jah
Dr. Moriba Jah joined the Department of Aerospace Engineering and Engineering Mechanics at the University of Texas in Austin in 2017. His research interests are in non-gravitational astrodynamics and advanced/non-linear multi-sensor/object tracking, prediction, and information fusion. His expertise is in space object detection, tracking, identification, and characterization, as well as spacecraft navigation. Dr. Jah is a world-recognized subject matter expert in astrodynamics-based Space Domain Awareness sciences and technologies with 75+ publications in peer-reviewed journals, conferences, and symposia.
The Environmental Task Force
Created in 2020, the Environmental Task Force (ETF) rose from a small group of motivated individuals to a recognised team of representatives from Academia, Government, Third Sector and Industry who push the Space sector to embrace a culture of “Green by design”.
The ETF works closely with Space Scotland and brought Sustainability both in Space and on Earth to the forefront of the sector’s thinking, with the “Sustainable Space Challenges” activity and then the first in the world “Sustainable Space Roadmap”, produced by AstroAgency and Optimat for Space Scotland’s ETF, funded by Scottish Enterprise. The “Roadmap” serves the group as a guide to deliver simple but important objectives through short-, medium- and long-term work goals. There are 13 work packages underway to support this work.
Those goals cover:
