Dave Schweisguth sings the songs of the amazing Andy Razaf, with piano wizard Nick Perez on keys!
Andy Razaf was one of America's finest lyricists. With composers like Fats Waller, Eubie Blake and James P. Johnson, he wrote the words to pretty much all of the greatest songs of the Harlem swing era: "Ain't Misbehavin'", "Honeysuckle Rose", "Memories of You" and many more. We'll perform all the hits and dig up some buried gold. Andy also had the most astonishing life any songwriter has ever had, and we'll tell his stories, from devastating to triumphant.
Dave Schweisguth is a singer who especially loves overlooked songs and interesting lyrics. His most recent show at Martuni's, with fellow singer Jessen Langley and pianist Joe Wicht, celebrated the boundless creativity of Hoagy Carmichael. Dave also wrote and emceed Society Cabaret's "Songs and Their Stories" showcases, which featured songwriters Johnny Mercer, Carolyn Leigh, Jerome Kern and Frank Loesser, in 2021 and 2022.
Nick Perez is one of the Bay Area's most in-demand pianists. When he's not accompanying the San Francisco Gay Men's Chorus, or presiding over a Tuesday night at Martuni's, he might be music-directing a show, playing a religious service or a speakeasy, or cutting his opponent in dueling pianos.
Martuni's is San Francisco's best place to see up and coming cabaret and theater performers, as well as being SF's premier piano bar and the home of its most generous cocktails. At the corner of Valencia and Market streets, Martuni's is easily reached by BART or Muni.
