Coltrane and Hartman on Impulse!

Thu 19 Feb 2026 7:30 PM - 10:30 PM GMT Dawkes Music, SL6 8BT

Join us for an unforgettable evening of jazz as saxophonist Mark Lockheart and vocalist Marvin Muoneké revisit the famous album when John Coltrane teamed up with vocalist Johnny Hartman to explore their favourite romantic standards. Outstanding saxophonist Mark Lockheart and extraordinary vocalist Marvin Muoneké are joined by a top-flight rhythm section of Gary Crosby (bass), Alex Webb (piano) and Alfonso Vitale (drums).

As well as the songs from the 1963 Impulse album, the group explores other standards that Coltrane liked to play, including All Or Nothing At All, Out Of This World, Say It Again and a vocal version of Moment's Notice. Expect an evening of soulful swing, deep lyricism and effortless artistry.

The Performers

Marvin Muoneké – Vocals
Known as “The Young Man with The Old Soul”, Marvin’s velvet tone recalls legends like Nat King Cole and Johnny Hartman. A rising star of UK jazz and swing, he’s performed with NYJO, the Vince Dunn Orchestra and Down For The Count.

An acclaimed British jazz figure, Mark first rose to fame with Loose Tubes and later with Polar Bear, earning two Mercury nominations. His playing and compositions continue to push boundaries between jazz and orchestral music.

Alex Webb – Piano
Pianist, songwriter and arranger, Alex has written for artists including China Moses and Liane Carroll. His elegant style and deep feel for the jazz tradition make him a perfect fit for this project.

Gary Crosby OBE – Bass
A founder of Jazz Warriors and Tomorrow’s Warriors, Gary is one of UK jazz’s most influential mentors and performers, known for his commanding groove and generous musicianship.

Alfonso Vitale – Drums
