Clarinet Ensemble Day (Sat 3rd Oct)

Our 2026 Clarinet & Sax weekend starts on Saturday 3rd October with the dedicated Clarinet Day supported by Selmer Paris. We will have two professionals leading a variety of sessions, as outlined below. This is a great chance to spend time playing your instrument in fun and informative ensemble situations with friendly and expert group leaders.

Firstly we welcome back Selmer Clarinet Artist Hannah Shilvock, a Brighton based musician, arranger, and yoga teacher. Hannah is a keen educator, and has guest taught at Trinity Laban Conservatoire and at festivals in Europe. Her playing career has seen Hannah invited to perform many Bass Clarinet solo recitals around Europe. Hannah has previously run very successful sessions here at Dawkes so we can't wait to welcome her back.

Hannah will be joined by Berdel Efe Gülşen. Originally from Türkiye, Berdel studied clarinet under Chris Swann (RLPO) and Klezmer clarinet with Roz Hawley. He is Principal Bass Clarinet with the British Clarinet Ensemble, and has performed all over Europe. A passionate educator and Klezmer specialist, Berdel teaches clarinet and saxophone and has served on the Board of Directors of the Clarinet and Saxophone Society of Great Britain since 2020.

NOTE: Bring your instrument(s) and play during the ensemble and masterclass/workshop sessions. Suitable for Grade 6+ Players.

• 10am-10.30am: Welcome & Registration
• 10.30am-11.30am: Full Clarinet Ensemble (music provided in advance)
• 11.45am-12.45pm: Choice of - 'Mind & Body Warm Up with Hannah' or 'An Introduction to Klezmer with Berdel' - (playing ensemble/workshop)
• 12.45pm-1.15pm: Lunch
• 1.15pm-2.15pm: Clarinet Ensemble - Sections (split into Bb and Alto/Bass Clarinets)
• 2.15pm-3.15pm: Full Clarinet Ensemble
• 3.15pm-3.45pm: Short Recital ft. Hannah & Berdel, plus Ensemble accompaniment

• If the event is cancelled by Dawkes for any reason a full refund will be issued
• Under 16's must be accompanied by an adult (ticket required)
