Rob Castell & Friends

Coming to the Dawkes stage is local musician Rob Castell and his band, live and direct, bringing jazz pop originals and a set of swinging covers.

Dan 'The Soundman' Smith on the guitar, bringing his beautiful blues tone and sexy solos, Duncan 'The Master' Penny on the bass, a karate teacher with the fiercest slap in the business and Dom 'Tender Touch' Bostock on the drums, chiropractor by day, formerly of massive Indie band Thousand Yard Stare.

Rob writes about places and moments, memories and meaning, with a hint of Jamie Cullum and a bit of Ben Folds, all from the heart and with a dynamism that will make you want to move, while still catching every lyric.

Rob will do a solo stint as well (to give the poor band a break) where he'll take you deeper into his compositions and writing work from musicals and more. Later in the set we'll be grooving to the likes of Bill Withers and the Doobie Brothers - dancing strongly encouraged!

And there's more before Rob even takes the stage:

Opening the evening, The Material Girls bring their trademark mix of fabulous harmonies, feel-good favourites and a healthy dose of fun.

Expect songs old and new, all given the Material Girls treatment, from vintage-inspired swing and close harmonies to pop anthems, guilty pleasures and a few unexpected twists.

Come ready to sing along and start the night in style!
