What is DC Movie Club?
I'm glad you asked! DC Movie Club is a welcoming, inclusive, and (mostly) unpretentious community of movie lovers who gather for a variety of events each month around the District including movie screenings, happy hours, discussions, trivia, and more! For a full calendar of events, be sure to follow on Instagram and subscribe on Substack.

What can I expect?
Good vibes, new friends, high quality live streaming of the Academy Awards, a ballot competition, and more! This is our biggest event of the year, and energy is high! There will be tables and chairs set up to accommodate each ticket holder as well as projectors on every wall of the room. We'll add more details here as planning continues to unfold!

What time should I should I show up?
Doors open at 5:30 to give attendees plenty of time to take advantage of the red carpet, photo booth, fill out their ballot, and participate in activities before the show kicks off. Opening remarks will be at 6:45, with the show starting promptly at 7 (but we have no control over that one). So show up whenever you'd like! Earlier is better if you want to guarantee seating with your friends -- this event WILL sell out, so plan accordingly!

What should I wear??
There will be a red carpet, photo booth, and Hollywood execs present (jk) so dress to impress. Think: red carpet chic meets black tie -- that outfit that you've never worn that's been sitting in your closet? THIS is the occasion (i.e. dresses, sparkles, suits, jumpsuits). For inspiration from last year's event, check out the photo booth photos and pics from Instagram.

Can I come if I don't know anyone/haven't been to an event before?
Of course! DC Movie Club is a welcoming community and people show up solo to events all the time! The Academy Awards Watch Party is a great place to break the ice and get a feel for Movie Club, and plenty of DC Movie Club members joined after going to an Academy Awards Party as their first event. I guarantee you'll walk away with new friends who will be eager to see you at the next event!

How late will this go until?
God only knows. Google says it runs until 10, but we know The Academy is never on time. If we had to guess? Between 10:30-11pm.

Will you have ballots?
You bet we will! Grab a paper ballot at the door when you walk in -- you'll have until showtime to fill it out. There will be prizes for most accurate ballot(s), so try your best! Prizes in past years have included $150 gift cards to local businesses, movie prize packages, and more!

Do I need to eat dinner beforehand?
That is up to you! Penn Social has a robust menu of food and drink, so dontchu worry, you won't go hungry!

Can I buy a ticket at the door?
Tickets will most certainly sell out before then, so in order to guarantee entry, be sure to buy a ticket beforehand. Keep an eye on our social channels closer to the event to keep an eye on tickets.
