Tour

Our Field Trips are designed to get kids moving and learning with their whole body.  With 4 interactive stations making up our field trip,  your visit will get you experiencing a working ranch and learning about various aspects of our great outdoors.  From touching various animals on the ranch to feeding the cattle, to learning the "why" behind some animal and plant behaviors, as well as providing a play area complete with a giant gunny sack slide.  We strive to offer an experience that leaves our guests enriched, intrigued and hopefully revived from some quality time in the great Central Oregon outdoors.

Spring 2023 Field Trip Hours:

Tuesday- Friday 10:00 am -12:15 pm.

May 16th -June 16th 2023

Individual groups (of 30 or less in each group), rotate through the four stations in the 2 -plus hours of the field trip.

Each field trip session can accomodate 4 groups.

(If tickets still remain in the group you registered in,  individuals from different parties may register in the same group.)

Our 2 1/2 hour guided field trip includes four stations:

  1. A hayride out to our fields to feed the cattle and learn a bit about cattle ranching at DD Ranch.
  2. Play time in the Kids Korral and visit time with our Petting Zoo Animals.   A giant gunny sack slide, swings, elevated fort and plenty of space for running and exploring are combined with a visit to the petting zoo.  We have goats, sheep, dairy calves, pot belly pigs and loads of peacocks!
  3. An educational station where we discover some of the mysteries behind bees and their habits.
  4. A chance to plant a small cup-sized wildflower garden, to take home and observe the changes from seed to flower.

At the end of our visit, students can take home a honey straw.

*If you have fewer than 10 paying children in your group, please sign up in a session that already has visitors attending. It is not financially sustainable for DD Ranch to operate a field trip with fewer than 10 children. DD Ranch reserves the right to contact you and reschedule your visit to a date that is already established with a field trip. However, we can not guarantee that we will always be able to accommodate your group when needing to reschedule, due to days and time slots getting sold out.

Need To Know Before You Book Your Field Trip:

When you schedule your booking, you are booking in groups that we have labeled as Tractor, Rancher, Cows and Honey Bees.  These are identifying images that we use to organize our groups.

*We cannot honor the Pay at Time of visit option we had last season.  Our scheduling system is a Pay at Time of Registration system.  It became too difficult to keep track of who paid and to track down payments not made at the time of visit.  Please accept our apologies for any inconviences this may cause.  We have a 100% refund on tickets if the cancellation is made 72 hours prior to your event.  Contact Julie Larson at julie@ddranch to inform her of your cancellations needs.  Include your name, organization, date of visit, type of tickets and number of those tickets needing to be refunded.

When you arrive at the ranch:

  • Please arrive at least 15 minutes early in order to get your group off the bus, out of the car, to the potties, and lined up.  We strive to begin our fieldtrips at the time they are scheduled for.  If you arrive late, please be prepared to catch your group in their rotation through the ranch.  We will do our best to get you plugged in with your group, however please understand that staff seldom have a chance to come to check in at the ticket counter to accomodate your schedule if you are running late.
  • Check in -
    • If you have multiple bookings for one registration, i.e. public school, one adult can check everyone in. Please have your QR codes ready on your phone or printed off and we will scan them when you check in.
    • If you are an individual group within a larger group, i.e. Homeschool, please check your individual group in.  Please have your QR codes ready on your phone or printed off and we will scan them when you check in.
  • Line up in Front of your Group Image-
    • Once you've checked in, find the image of your group that matches the group image you are registerd in.  It will be posted on poles to the east of the barn, near the entrance to the grassy picnic area. Line up.
  • Group Stickers-
    • Each group will have stickers with their group image on it .  You will find these clipped to your posted group image.   Please put the sticker on the children before we begin our visit.

Bus and Car Parking:

It is a short walk from the Bus Parking-Loading area as well as Auto Parking Field. Please plan to haul your items from your parking area to the gathering area in front of the barn.  It is rustic and we have dirt roads that can be wet or rutted during inclement weather.  Groups have found that individual backpacks, collapsable wagons as well as rolling baskets have been very handy. We have Red Wagon wagons and wheel barrows available for you to transport items. However, for afternoon field trips during the Fall Pumpkin Patch Season, wagons and wheel barrows can sometimes be hard to come by.

Special Accommodations with Booking Your Visit

In past years, we've been able to work individually with organizations to coordinate bookings with similar age groups.  DD Ranch recognizes that this scheduling app does not allow for that type of fine tuning in its booking ability.  We also recognize that preschoolers in the kids korral with 5th graders can be a recipe for disaster.  Please contact Julie Larson, Education Coordinator, and we can do our best to find a time slot and age group similar to the one you are hoping to book.

**Due to rising costs and inflation, DD Ranch is in a position that it must raise its prices in order to continue to provide services and products to our customers.  Thank you for understanding
