Dave Haslam is a former resident DJ at the Haçienda, a broadcaster, and the author of several books.

In his new small format book, Strawberry and the Big Apple: Grace Jones in Stockport, 1980, Dave Haslam explains a seemingly unlikely scenario: the day in 1980 when the glamorous jet-setting Grace Jones visited post-industrial Stockport to meet A Certain Ratio, with a view to working together. Imagine! Worlds colliding!

Dave will be joined by Martin Moscrop & Donald Johnson (A Certain Ratio) to share stories about the mutual love-in between New York and Factory Records around that period. The evolution of A Certain Ratio, and their current renaissance. How New Order’s visits to New York clubs inspired the Haçienda. A book full of big personalities – Tony Wilson, Martin Hannett, and the genius that is Grace Jones. Plus walk-on parts for 10cc, Robert De Niro and Jerry Hall!

It’s the 8th book in his small format ‘Art Decades’ series - subjects have included Sylvia Plath, Keith Haring, and vinyl record collecting.
