Matt White - How to be an architect developer
Wed 3 Jul 2024 6:00 PM - 8:30 PM
The Building Society, W1T 4HE
Description
In the final talk before we break for the summer, architect Matthew White will share his decade-long experience as a developer, and why you should explore multiple routes in order to be successful.
Together with his wife Sophie, Matt has built three houses in Sussex and London and is currently developing 41 units in Burgess Hill alongside a conversion of a single house in Cambridge to an HMO.
He will explain why he prefers to buy sites without finance and the importance of using capital efficiently and recycling funds into new projects.
Matt began his career at Foster + Partners in HK and was one of the original partners at Make Architects before establishing Matt Architecture in 2011.
The series is aimed at architects who would like to know more about the opportunities and challenges around being an independent developer, including spotting creative solutions that a non-architect developer will often miss.
Amanda Baillieu and Gus Zogolovitch set up Developer Collective in 2018 to teach professionals how to become design-led property developers and give them the contacts and resources to deliver their projects. Their book How to be an Architect Developer was published in September '23.
The talk will be followed by networking drinks and nibbles.
