Ty Tikari - How to be an architect developer
Tue 15 Oct 2024 6:00 PM - 9:00 PM
The Building Society, W1T 4HE
Description
Architect Ty Tikari has been developing since 2015 after setting up Tikari Works with his wife Nicola, who is also an architect. They bought their first site in Forest Hill, Lewisham and in 2020 completed The Rye, an award-winning development of ten apartments in Peckham, Southwark. Current development projects include Linden Grove, nine Passivhaus apartments in Nunhead, Southwark, and a larger residential scheme in Kingston, south-west London.
His story proves that without capital architects can build up the level of equity needed to be a developer by starting small and using their skills. At the same time the practice continues to face many of the issues facing all developers, namely planning. βThe biggest enemy for us is time, everything just takes too long,β he says.
The series is aimed at architects who would like to know more about the opportunities and challenges around being an independent developer, including spotting creative solutions that a non-architect developer will often miss.
Amanda Baillieu and Gus Zogolovitch set up Developer Collective in 2018 to teach professionals how to become design-led property developers and give them the contacts and resources to deliver their projects. Their book How to be an Architect Developer was published in September '23.
The talk will be followed by networking drinks and nibbles.
This event is supported by The Building Society.
