Our July talk is by Ashley Law who set up her property company, Flawk, in 2022 focused on restoring and reimagining neglected pockets of London.

A Bartlett graduate, Ashley grew up in Singapore and started her first “upcycle design company" when she was 16. After graduating and while working for a FinTech company, she was able to put down a deposit on her first property.

Since then funding has come from friends and family and angle investors in Singapore.

Ashley's first new-build house is on a former car park in in Stoke Newington, east London. She is currently developing sites in Holland Park, west London and Gospel Oak, north London.  The architect for Flawk’s projects is Nikjoo.

Ashley’s talk will focus on the complexities of development, including landownership and disputes as well as the need to differentiate yourself in a saturated market by building a lifestyle brand.  Flawk hosts events and exhibitions in its completed projects and sells products connected to its brand.

“We want people to buy into our vision, not just a house,” says Ashley.

Amanda Baillieu and Gus Zogolovitch set up Developer Collective in 2018 to teach professionals how to become design-led property developers and give them the contacts and resources to deliver their projects. Their book How to be an Architect Developer was published in September '23.

The talks are aimed at architects who would like to know more about the opportunities and challenges around being an independent developer, including spotting creative solutions that a non-architect developer will often miss.

The talk will be followed by networking drinks and nibbles.

This event is supported The Society Building.
