How to be an architect developer: John Smart
Thu 29 Jun 2023 6:00 PM - 8:30 PM
The Building Society, W1T 4HE
Description
In the third talk by architect developers, architect John Smart will discuss how he finds sites and how to build effectively.
Smart bought his first site in 2004 and now has a pipeline of 20 sites which he is building out. Although he resists being called an ‘architect developer’, his practice Craftworks is purely focused on development and finding new opportunities.
The series is aimed at architects who would like to know more about the opportunities and challenges around being an independent developer, including spotting creative solutions that a non-architect developer will often miss. Future speakers include Donald Matheson and Sophie Goldhill.
Amanda Baillieu and Gus Zogolovitch set up Developer Collective in 2018 to teach professionals how to become design-led property developers and give them the contacts and resources to deliver their projects. Their book How to be an Architect Developer will be published by RIBA in September 2023.
The event will be followed by networking drinks and nibbles.
