Every year at Deveron Projects our Annual General Meeting is a point of public reflection, evaluation and forward planning, where we invite everyone who cares about the organisation and its work to join us in a sort of ‘performance review’. Everyone is welcome to join us for a workshop and tasty meal – whether you regularly join in with our work, or are new to it. All perspectives are welcomed.

This time, we will be reflecting on what it means to ‘account’ for work like ours. What does it take to make our events, projects and community resources happen, and to maintain the infrastructure that supports them? What do you expend or gain when you show up, join in and work with us? How does an annual account tell our different experiences of the year? And can it hold accountability in deciding where resources come from, how they are managed and spent?

At the point in the year where we are required to present our annual (financial) accounts to you, our communities, we invite you to join us with artist Lynne Hocking, in weaving an alternative annual account of 2025-26. Through the process of handweaving, we will explore resources, time, money, care, energy and more, through a human and non-human lens. We will collectively account for these resources, discussing, interpreting and weaving them together into a scarf. To be worn in processes of accounting as a reminder of our accountability- and existing as an alternative, material\ annual account of the year.

Lynne Hocking is a handweaver and former scientist in the field of human genetics, now weaving science. Working from her studio in Aberdeen, she explores scientific concepts through data physicalisation (giving physical form to information) and material exploration, developing handwoven textile objects that promote conversations about heritage, connection to place, and identity. While she works with a range of data sources, her main focus is her own family’s connection to the weaving trade in north-east Scotland that stretches over at least seven generations, where she combines ancestry research, genetic data and/or explorations of materiality to consider what it means to “be Scottish” (by birth and/or by choice) in the 21st century.
