2026 marks 10 years since the launch of the Healthy Homes and Buildings APPG. Join us in celebrating this important milestone at a Parliamentary reception and give some personal reflections on why Healthy Homes and Buildings Matter.

Government and Parliamentarians from all parties know that poor quality and unhealthy indoor environments impact negatively on physical and mental health and wellbeing, educational attainment, ability to work and life chances.

Over the years, the HHB APPG has championed the need for a joined-up and holistic approach to tackle the problem of unhealthy housing. Our health and housing are inextricably linked. Poor ventilation, heat, light and acoustics all impact on our health and wellbeing and ability to live life comfortably and thrive. We believe everyone has the right to live in a home, work in or use buildings which do not cause or exacerbate poor health and wellbeing.

Over the past decade, the HHB APPG has worked hard to make the case for health and wellbeing principles to be embedded in future housing and building legislation for future generations. The fact remains that in 2026, too many people across the UK continue to live in cold, damp, noisy, unsafe, poorly ventilated and energy inefficient homes. Our Missions for Change, Healthy Homes Manifesto and our original White Paper set out the positive health, social and economic benefits which result from healthy, decent, quality homes and buildings in our communities.
