Major investment in housing and regeneration is underway across the Liverpool City Region. £770 million has been earmarked for the region through the social and affordable housing programme, the single largest housing settlement in Liverpool’s history, with a pipeline of 300 development sites identified to deliver over 64,000 new homes. This will be complemented by the LCR Spatial Development Strategy (SDS), prioritising key areas for additional housing while improving existing homes across Merseyside to drive health and prosperity in local communities.
The proposed Mayoral Development Corporation (MDC) will also be a game changer for accelerating the delivery of the £11 billion investment pipeline in the LCR growth plan, using stronger planning powers, flexible financial tools and attracting huge amounts of private investment to drive local growth.
However, challenges still remain, with a productivity gap of 11% compared to the English average and 61% of homes in LCR failing to meet minimum energy efficiency standards.
This roundtable and visit will provide an important opportunity to discuss how new powers through the recently passed English Devolution and Community Empowerment Act can work to expedite the city regions ambitions for housing, regeneration and retrofit, driving productivity and growth for the city region.
It will focus particularly on the power of the integrated settlement in bringing forward growth plans in the city region, the Planning and Infrastructure Act as well as the Future and Decent Homes Standards, with the view to discuss how we can go further to break down the barriers to greater homes and places.
We will hear from top-tier speakers and experts; the key partners of the proposed Mayoral Development Corporation, those working to drive forward housing and retrofit delivery, academic experts as well as local and regional authorities implementing the ambitious plans for LCR.
