How to Human Playshop

Tue Feb 4, 2025 6:00 PM - Tue Mar 11, 2025 8:00 PM EST Online, Zoom

You’re invited into a 6-week experimental playshop to remember how to human. Our human bodies are brilliant organisms that know how to heal, learn, regulate, communicate, protect, and keep us alive every day. In this workshop, we will learn to listen to and support these processes so we may use them to find and stay balanced through the complexities of living in the age of polycrisis. At each gathering, we will dance between imagination, storytelling, parts work, journaling, games, awareness and embodiment practices to deepen our relationship with ourselves and the world around us. We will do this through play because play empowers us to experiment, discover, and imagine beyond imposed societal limitations. It drives us away from a fear-based scarcity mindset to a creative one where we have agency and space to explore new possibilities, try new things, fail, laugh about it, and try again. In our time together our imaginations will lead us to connect across time and space, and harness the wisdom of ancestors and generations far beyond — we will build relationships with the earth, our more-than-human-kin, and each other to co-vision a just and joy-filled world. Together, we dare to imagine better for ourselves so we may go forth and demand it.

This 6-session workshop will take place on Tuesdays from 6-8pm EST starting Feb 4th.

Session 1: Love, Breath, Death - relationship building with our humanity

Session 2: Who Are We Really? - developing our personal compass

Session 3: Caring for Our Animals - understanding our human bodies and meeting them with compassion

Session 4: Meeting our Wounds - supporting our triggers and integrating our traumas

Session 5: Weaving in Relationship - co-creating connection and belonging

Session 6: Playing Into the World We Deserve - co-visioning a well future

All sessions will be recorded. When you miss a week the rest of the journey won't quite make sense, we strongly encourage participants to watch the recording before attending the next weeks session.

On this journey, we will be guided to

  • develop personal practices that help build balance and resilience into our lives

  • identity our values, beliefs, and boundaries, then practice embodying them

  • learn body hacks to help us regulate and listen to our bodies truths

  • recognize and understand our own survival patterns

  • tap into our creative capacity to envision a just and joy-filled world

This is an interactive community-based experimental space that welcomes all parts of you. Here we encourage honest participation, and willingness to let go of rightness and lean into the unknown. To hold this container together we require a commitment to the following:

  1. Confidentiality
What is learned in this space is for everyone to share freely, however, no one else's personal experiences or stories may leave the container without explicit consent.
  2. Cameras on
In this space, participation means embodied presence. Your body is what makes you human and we ask that you give us the full gift of you for every meeting. If this is an accessibility barrier for you please reach out at connect@devyne.love to discuss.

About your instructor:

My name is Devyn Harris and I am so excited to go on this journey with you. I got into this work out of desperation. Western psychology had failed me over and over again, constantly leaving me feeling broken like there was no point in trying anymore. So at my lowest point, I threw myself into every "alternative" modality I could. I tried over 30 different things and found 12 modalities that really resonated with me. Being the person I am I became certified in almost all of them (still working on the last few) because I needed to understand exactly how to "heal" myself. What I learned in that process is that I was never broken and didn't need to be fixed, I simply never learned how to be with myself and a lot of what I was taught was counter to what my body needed. Years after this process began I looked around and realized most of us were never taught to be with ourselves. For years I taught these skills at non-profits, but at this moment as the world we knew falls apart I realized it was time to share these skills publicly for all who feel they need them.

My work is held by healing justice and embodied social justice frameworks, and I use imagination infrastructures to inspire us into the versions of ourselves we want to be. I am a trained integrative embodiment practitioner, bodyworker, death doula, community organizer, artist, and clown led by ancestral wisdom and Indigenous technologies. As I mentioned I am always learning more, right now this learning is focused at the feet of Indigenous elders to whom I am deeply grateful as they continue to share their medicines and wisdom with me.

Crip spaciousness

I am chronically healing person. My health is generally stable right now and I still get flares every once in a while that take me out of commission and may require a last-minute class cancellation. I have a decent handle on my health and if I do have a debilitating flare during this workshop I will cancel class as early as I am able to. If this happens we will have an additional class on the 11th of March. To account for this possible shift I ask that everyone who signs up for this class blocks off the 11th so no one misses our final meeting.

If you would like to learn more about my work or have any questions for me regarding this course please feel free to email me at connect@devyne.love or visit devyne.love.

Much love!
