Place Writing with Pin the Tale

A friendly creative writing workshop using places and their what3words addresses as inspiration for storytelling. The session will be led by Jack Lowe, creator of the online platform Pin the Tale – a map-based storytelling project where people can write about real locations in the UK using their unique three-word addresses and pin their stories for others to discover. Using Pin the Tale, participants will be guided through a series of short writing activities designed to help create pieces of writing inspired by place. Whether it’s fiction, non-fiction, poetry or personal experience, this workshop offers a welcoming space to write and share with others, regardless of previous experience. Please bring along a smartphone, tablet or laptop that can access the internet.

Dr Jack Lowe is an award-winning game and narrative designer who has created immersive experiences across several artforms, including locative media, video games, board games, audiowalks, QR-code treasure hunts and interactive theatre. His main area of expertise is in designing games that engage with place, informed by over ten years of academic research within cultural geography. Jack is a postdoctoral researcher at UWE Bristol’s Digital Cultures Research Centre and a resident of Pervasive Media Studio.
