The Summer I Learned How to Let Myself Be Bad: Gluttony & Greed

Do you ever feel like you know it's OK to do something, e.g., enjoy food, but you really struggle to let yourself do it? There is a reason this is easier said than done. The insidious nature of the messages women have received about "how to be good" have infiltrated our relationship with our own selves, our own values systems.
Let's kick out the invaders together, shall we?
Enter this 90-minute virtual book club and workshop with psychotherapist and writer of the Substack newsletter dialgouing, Kaitlyn Elizabeth, discussing Elise Loehnen's On Our Best Behavior: The Price Women Pay to Be Good. If your unfamiliar with the book, Loehnen unpacks each of the seven deadly sins and how, even in a primarily secular culture (or so we are told), they hold immense power over us—the decisions we make, the way we feel about ourselves—and how it’s inextricably linked to the patriarchy. A lot of our distress comes down to feeling shame or, put more simply, a feeling of “badness.” This is a workshop series. You can pick and choose which ones you'd like to attend--see below for the full summer schedule.
This ticket is for Gluttony & Greed
What you can expect from the book club + workshop: a meditation/visualization, journal prompts and time to work through one of your choosing, group discussions on our takeaways and assigning ourselves homework for how we are going to be bad in the month in-between. Optional: A WhatsApp Group chat for encouragement and check-ins in between.
Remaining Schedule:
- Sunday September 13th from 10-11:30 am MST || Lust & Anger
- Sunday October 4th from 10-11:30 am MST || Bonus Sin: Sadness + Closing
Meeting over Zoom can be intimidating, please know that you can participate as much or as little as you'd like (e.g., your video and sound on or off, completely up to you). If you can't attend live, a replay will be available. Previous meetings in the series can be purchased for a fee. Email Kaitlyn at dialoguingsubstack@gmail.com for more info on this.
