Making Sense of SEND Part 1: About SEND and school
Need help?
This part of our Making Sense of SEND training explains the basics about special educational needs, SEN support and how the SEND system works. It includes:
- Important things to know - the law, the SEND system, types of SEN, SEND language
- SEN Support - core principles of support, types and levels of support, how SEN support works, school plans and adjustments
- Getting help – when and how to get help, the Local Offer in Devon, useful organisations and services, how to get more help
You may find it most useful if you are a parent carer living in Devon and you’re new to SEND or have a child being supported without an EHC plan, but anyone is welcome to join!
The session is run by Sarah Smith, Information and Training Officer, and Katy Isaac, DiAS Officer, who works on our enquiry line. The main session is one hour long, with 30 minutes for questions and discussion at the end.
