We are very excited to announce that award winning Canadian artist Gordie Tentrees will be performing at The Phyllis Maud as part of his UK tour this August. Tentrees, who has enjoyed a fruitful career writing and performing alongside world renowned Americana royalty will be joined by Keiran Foile on fiddle and the show will feature some of South Wales' finest artists in support.
If you're unaware of Gordie Tentrees and his illustrious career, here's a few facts to remind you why this is most certainly a show that you don't want to miss!
It’s been a landmark period for international touring, award-winning Canadian roots artist Gordie Tentrees, whose journey first took him overseas as the opening act for Fred Eaglesmith on his 2010 UK tour. Since then, Tentrees has toured across 11 countries, performing over 5,000 concerts and earning acclaim for his blend of grit, heart, and human truth.
In 2025, Tentrees released Double Takes, his Nashville-produced collaboration with longtime musical partner Jaxon Haldane (D-Rangers), helmed by Nash Chambers (Archie Roach, Kasey Chambers). The record features an all-star lineup including Charlie McCoy (Elvis Presley), Tania Elizabeth (Avett Brothers), and Lucky Oceans (Asleep at the Wheel). As FATEA Magazine (EU) praised, the album is “rooted in human truth and experience—there’s grit aplenty here.”
Tentrees’ song “Gratitude” went on to win the 2025 International Acoustic Music Award (IAMA), his second victory following his 2023 win for “Every Child”—a heartfelt piece inspired by his work with Indigenous families and his own parenting journey. AMERICANA UK has described his craft as “majestic songwriting, incredible insight, genuine authenticity.”
His upcoming album, Country Blue (set for release October 2026), was recorded live off the floor at Ganaraska Recordings in Ontario with Jimmy Bowskill (Blue Rodeo, Sheepdogs) and Steve Marriner (Colin James, Harry Manx). Captured over just five days with vintage 1930s–50s equipment, the album leans deeper into acoustic blues—“a record Tentrees has been making in his mind for ten years.” MIDWEST RECORD (USA) calls it “organic, holistic… the wild sound of freedom.”
Offstage, Tentrees is an active member of Shawthan Nazhi, an Indigenous-led land-based trauma recovery team awarded the Arctic Inspiration Prize for its healing songwriting work addressing intergenerational trauma. His passion for teaching and community-building continues through workshops for both youth and adults.
He has performed with and alongside Fred Eaglesmith, Mary Gauthier, Kelly Joe Phelps, Danny Michel, Ray Wylie Hubbard, and Steve Poltz, with major appearances at Celtic Connections (UK), National Folk Festival (Australia), Woody Guthrie Folk Fest (USA), and Auckland Folk Festival (New Zealand).
