Introduction

The current cost-of-living crisis for disabled people isn’t just a societal inconvenience – it breaches their human rights.

Internationally, disabled people’s human rights are protected within a raft of treaties like CRPD and ICESCR. These treaties have been signed by the UK so should be realised in practice. Also, disabled people should be legally protected from discrimination under the Equality Act 2010, whether at work, in education, as a consumer, when using public services, when buying or renting property.

This event will present research carried out by Disability Equality Scotland over the last two years on the cost-of-living crisis for disabled people in Scotland. Participants will hear about the realities facing disabled people and discuss the implications for their human rights.
