We’re showcasing queer movement and artistry from across the globe on screen with our 2024 Queer Mvmnt Fest film selections! Film artists include Lea Anderson, Domiziano Cristopharo, Douglas Picelli (dodo), Hellen Hernández, Mister Dem, Julien Cadieux, Jasmin Hagendorfer, Rowan Janusiak & Ariana Stadler, Riy Mutakabbir, Alyssa Rose, and FILAM FILM CO. After the screening, you’ll have the opportunity to vote for your favorites, and film prize selections will be announced on the last day of the festival - Friday, June 14! Please join us for a brief discussion after the screening with San Diego's own Mx. Amber St. James!

☆Lea Anderson is a versatile and accomplished international artist, excelling as an actor, mover and movement director. Her captivating performances have been featured in music videos of acclaimed artists such as Marika Hackman and Ebinum Brothers. Lea’s collaboration extends to renowned directors, including James Marsh, Pablo Maestres, Benjamin Nicolas and Saman Kesh. A testament to her talent, Lea has lent her skills as a movement director to the award winning director Renee Maria Osubu for the short film “Dirt in the Diamonds” and Marika Hackman’s music video “Yellos Mile”, just to name a few. With CYCLE, Lea is bringing her vision as a dancer and movement director. This piece is the first episode of a series of dance films, which navigates around the themes of Womanhood and Spirituality. ☆Since 1990 Domiziano Cristopharo has perfectioned and expanded his technique studying "Psychology of form" with Nato Frasca' and by attending multiple courses and workshops, including Teatro Butoh, Solfeggio, Lyrical Vocal Technique, and Teatro Yoga with the likes of Memo Dini, Marcello Sambati, Simona Valli and Masaki Iwana. In the 1990s, together with actor/dancer Pino Grossi, he founded the Dance company CONTENITORI DI IMMAGINI with which he produced several shows for Italy and abroad. In 2002 he also create the music compilation TUTTI PAZZI PER RETTORE with which he obtains distribution at the European level, also reaching 12th place in the European chart. He founded BLOODY CABARET in 2006, a company of SIDESHOW and BODY ART with which he landed in 2007 to the most popular show in italy: DIGNITA' AUTONOME. He will then remain in this show as a solist until 2015, performing in historical theaters such as the Quirino (Rome) Franco Parenti (Milan), Bellini (Naples) and of which he will be spokesperson on RAI 1 (the Italian National Television) together with actress Marianna Mercurio. ☆Douglas Picelli "Dodo" is a non-binary, plastic artist and designer, they had been working in the audiovisual industry in the independent cinema for 3 years as a specialist as a Production Designer and Art Director. they are associated with ABC (Association of Brazilian Cinematography), APAASP (Association of Audiovisual Art Professionals of São Paulo), academic associated with ABCAA (Academy of Brazilian Cinema and Audiovisual Arts) and member of BRADA (the Collective of Brazilian Women Art Directors), also a member of the international PDC (Production Designers Collective).They are the Production designer of 16 projects: Short Films, Video Clips, Documentaries and Performances. Featured in their feature film as Assistant of Production designer in international co-production (Brazil, Argentina, Spain and France) Caigan Las Rosas Blancas by Albertina Carri.
They participated in a several festivals and audiovisual exhibitions in Brazil and internationally with the screening of the experimental short film "Kaopan" at the Jorgé Eliécer Gaitán Theater in Bogotá, Colombia and Cuba and as a semifinalist winner of best short-film related to diversity at the Student World Impact Festival in the USA with 2 other honorable mentions. www.douglaspicelli.com - www.instagram.com/douglaspicelli
☆Hellen Hernández is a Visual Artist - Photographer based in Costa Rica. She Graduated with a Higher Technician in Photography and Visual Arts. Her artistic training and her interdisciplinary profile have led her to complement her artistic practice with projects related to art direction and cultural management. She currently works as an independent photographer, audiovisualist, collaborator in different performing arts, cultural, documentary, heritage and memory rescue projects.
Co-creator of the Home Museum in Lagos, Nigeria. Featured by the Association of Latin American Photographers and member of Women Photograph (World Collective of Women Photojournalists). Internationally, he has published and exhibited his work in countries such as: the United Kingdom, Italy, Scotland, Nigeria, the United States, Chile, Argentina, Mexico, El Salvador, Panama, among others. @bewakshortfilm @hellenhs
☆Dimitris Anastasopoulos, a versatile dance professional, is the co-owner and founder of Just Dance School in Kalamata. With a rich background in commercial, street, and LA-style dance, he serves as a dance instructor and choreographer at various institutions, including IEK Delta in Kalamata and Base Dance Studio in London. Dimitris has a knack for blending artistry with human expression, evident in his performances and instructional roles. His passion for dance extends beyond teaching, as he has directed and choreographed numerous projects, such as "The Dems Fam" and the Hellenic Beauty Pageant. Notable achievements include winning first place in multiple hip-hop categories and representing Greece at international dance conventions. As an organizer of summer dance camps and events like "Skillz on the Floor," Dimitris fosters community engagement and artistic growth. His dedication to the art form and commitment to excellence make him a respected figure in the global dance community. ☆After studying film production at Concordia University, Acadian filmmaker Julien Cadieux devoted himself to directing. For more than 10 years, he has been involved in a variety of projects, directing documentary series, medium-length and feature-length documentaries and short films. His work reflects his interest in the arts, queer identity, Acadia and the human encounters he has made along the way.
☆Based in Vienna, Jasmin Hagendorfer is an acclaimed contemporary artist, filmmaker, and curator. Through diverse mediums, she delves into socio-political themes and gender identity, showcasing her works internationally. As co-founder and director of the Porn Film Festival Vienna, she intertwines feminist and queer theories with art and erotica. ☆Rowan Janusiak (they/them) is a queer, interdisciplinary artist creating work that stimulates audiences to question societal standards imposed around pleasure and play. Currently, Rowan dances with Terpsichore Collective, serves as Event Manager for Embody Dance Conference, and performs as a drag artist. They are a graduate of the University of Michigan with degrees in Dance and Applied Exercise Science. This work was created in collaboration with Arianna Stadler (she/her), alumni of the University of Michigan with degrees in Dance and Movement Science. She is passionate about nurturing the capacity and desires of the human body through movement research. Evan Major (he/they/she) & Kelsey Major (she/they) are a dynamic sibling duo who founded Major Motion Picture Productions, a film company dedicated to making true and unique art. ☆Riyadah “Riy” Mutakabbir started their dance career at Stockton School of the Performing Arts and eventually transferred to Unique Visions Dance Company under the direction of Chelsea Hill. At 17 years old, they were admitted into UCLA’s Dance major where they were exposed to many different world dances and cultures. During their undergraduate career, they were a member of the hip hop group, NSU Modern, and co-founded a dance collective, Taste The Rainbow, that celebrated queer people’s existence. In June 2023, they received their MFA in Dance - Creative Practice from Saint Mary’s College of California. It is Riy’s mission to provide dance spaces to people of all genders and races, while educating folks on why this is important, in order to create a more inclusive dance community. @riyisthekey
☆Edrian Pangilinan (he/him) is a Filipino-American content creator/filmmaker/photographer + dance artist based in San Diego, CA. He is a co-founder of "The Filam Film Collective '' along with Marissa Roxas & Trixi Agiao which aims to amplify fellow Fil-Am + AAPI voices into today’s media. His work is greatly inspired by his press for representation as a brown, filipino and queer human. He is grateful to finally pursue his dreams of becoming a filmmaker focusing on LGBTQIA+ themes that challenge the status quo AND initiate dialogues necessary for change. Edrian has been a long-time community dancer, starting from San Diego School of Creative and Performing Arts in 2006 to graduating with his BFA in Dance at San Diego State University in 2017. ☆Alyssa Rose (they/them) is a Lebanese-American, disabled, non-binary and queer radical dreamer of liberation, community organizer, and artist. They create paintings, collage, sculptures, dances, and healthy cultural ecosystems in the field of dance and movement-art. Currently, Alyssa serves as the program coordinator at DISCO RIOT in San Diego, CA. Alyssa feels called to guide humans home to their bodies and empower marginalized people through embodiment. They use dance and visual art to explore the mystery of being alive and interconnected. Alyssa’s ongoing interests span research around Buddha Dharma, disability justice, collective liberation, community care, and how these areas of focus can be expressed through art and creative process. @alyssarosecreative
