DISCO RIOT's POP IN/POP OUT series offers master classes to those in our community from trusted teaching artists to promote a culture of sharing, exploration, diversity, expanding perspectives, and building community. Class is a place of personal growth, community building, curiosity, skill-building, and play. We hope to expand our collective experiences by bringing in teaching artists that challenge what we're used to. We learn more from one another. We grow together. Join us!
POP IN/POP OUT classes are on a tiered payment scale of $10, $15, $20 so that we can offer the highest quality experience for the community and for the master teacher. No one is turned away for lack of funds. Please reach out to community@discoriot.org for assistance.
This event is ADA accessible. DISCO RIOT is committed to accessibility and holds with great care the needs of our entire community, especially those who are disabled. We encourage you to contact Alyssa Rose, Operations Coordinator and Accessibility Specialist (email: operations@disoriot.org) regarding any specific accommodation needs.
Authentic Movement Intro Session Description
Authentic Movement is a profound, self-directed practice in which body wisdom is a source, and movement is an avenue for self-inquiry and expression. With eyes closed participants turn their attention inward and follow the impulses, questions, and curiosity that arise from within. There are no movements to learn, only one’s own to discover. A key element of Authentic Movement is the cultivation of one’s inner witness.
With roots in Jungian Psychology, and Dance/Movement Therapy, AM can be a potent therapeutic, spiritual and artistic resource. After moving, there is time for reflection and integration through journaling, drawing, and/or speaking about one’s experience.
This Intro session is open to all, both those new to the practice and those familiar with the form. Wear loose, comfortable clothing in layers in order to be warm/cool enough and please bring a journal. Should you desire to learn more, here's a wonderful introductory article by Daphne Lowell about the practice of Authentic Movement.
