Aisha's Class Description

My class will explore a wide range of contemporary influences and movement practices. Some days will center on improvisational exploration, others will focus on rigor, effort, and technical clarity. Certain sessions may feel like a traditional class, while others will lean into more experimental approaches. Ultimately, this class is designed to be a creative playground for movement : ) LET'S DANCE

Access

DISCO RIOT classes are on a tiered payment scale ($10-30) because we believe that class should be affordable and accessible. No one is turned away for lack of funds. Please reach out to Nicole at education@discoriot.org for a waiver code.

In alignment with the values of DISCO RIOT, this class centers access, bodily autonomy, consent, and the cultivation of safe(r) community space in an ADA accessible studio. During the RSVP process, there will be a chance to share any access needs you may have. Please reach out to Alyssa at operations@discoriot.org for further accommodation inquiries or requests.

If you have any questions about our classes or educational programming at large, please reach out to Nicole at education@discoriot.org.

Location: The studio is located on the second floor of 1100 Kettner Blvd (accessible by elevator). The entrance to the building is through the glass doors on the corner of Kettner and B St. (in front of the street light). There will be a DISCO RIOT team member at the entrance to let you in. There is a 15 minute grace period from the start of the event. 15 minutes after, there will be no admittance into the building unless communicated in advance. Please email education@discoriot.org if you are running late.

Public Transit: We highly recommend taking public transit. The studio is directly accessible by trolley, bus, and coaster. We hope you'll consider taking advantage of this infrastructure! MTS Trip Planner

Parking: Downtown parking can take time! Please reserve 15-20 extra minutes of your commute to find parking and make your way to the building. If you are able to, consider carpooling and walking in groups at night. There is FREE street parking on Sundays and Monday-Saturday after 8:00pm, as well as attended parking lots, and public transit.

Teaching Artists - Aisha Reddick and Marty Dorado

Aisha Reddick (she/her) is an African American/Filipino movement artist and instructor based in San Diego, California. She obtained her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Dance at California State University, Long Beach in Fall 2021. Since graduating, Aisha has made work that has been presented across the west coast for various concerts, festivals and sharings. Aisha has had the pleasure of working with various independent artists and companies between San Diego and Los Angeles, whose influence has helped shape her own craft. In her practice, Aisha finds real fulfillment in moving between juxtaposing gentle and aggressive powers to create a flow into and through the body to find feel good pathways. Presently, Aisha shares this way of moving at Helix Charter High School as the Dance Director, and as a teaching artist throughout the San Diego dance community.
