Description

current is an examination of global systems of oppression, the interconnected nature of environmental and social justice, freedom of movement, and the possibility of embodied expression as a tool for cultivating resilience. Originally, this work was intended for live performance at Art Produce, April 30 - May 2, 2020. However, in response to the COVID19 pandemic and in an effort to stay true to the intention of the project, we are reimagining current as a dance film project with work by Zaquia Mahler Salinas and grace shinhae jun.** Although a film iteration of a work intended for performance exists very differently than a live showing, we hope to capture the spirit of the work, and archive this unprecedented global experience in the way we know best - through movement art. current has been developed in collaboration with dancers Lauren Christie and Jaime Nixon, with an original sound score by Jonny Tarr.

The live performance of this work was intended to be an up-close-and-personal experience; audiences of 20 in the intimate space of the Art Produce gallery. We hope that a different kind of closeness can be possible through this film - that we can be with you from afar. While we are not charging a "ticket" for access to this work, you'll have an opportunity to offer a donation upon checkout.

current event (hosted through Zoom):

Friday 5/1 @ 7:30pm PST - join us for the premiere of this project! We will enjoy a toast "together," a live music set by Jonny Tarr and share the film with you.

**While choreography and performance by Anne Gehman will not be a part of this iteration, we'd like send a deep bow of gratitude to her for her contributions to the process. We look forward to a time when we can share her thoughtful work with you.
