Drop In, Spiral Out Class Descriptions

Chelsea: Rooted in Release Technique, this contemporary dance class utilizes visualization and progressions to engage and specify body pathways — moving fluidly through floorwork and phrasework.

Joyce: This contemporary class draws from various modern and contemporary disciplines, playing with weight, tension, dynamics, textures and gestural movements. Class begins with a floor warm-up, using somatic, improvisational and release ideas. Then we’ll move to our feet, going from center work to across the floor, and finish off by building to a final juicy phrase that will have us moving in and out of the floor. Knee pads are suggested if you are new to floorwork.

Lauren: This class incorporates elements of ballet, modern, and contemporary techniques, as well as yoga. Clear movement pathways and efficient use of energy are prioritized, as well as fluidity, momentum, and rebound. Exercises include spinal articulations, weight shifts, big legs, and floorwork. Consider bringing knee pads and/or long pants!

Marty: A mixed class of dance and basic fitness elements – come ready to break a sweat! We’ll begin with a center full body warm up and floorwork, followed by traveling exercises focusing on legs and inversions, and finish with a contemporary phrase focused on speed and directional changes. Alternative movements and various suggestions will be offered throughout class, but all will be encouraged to try the more advanced options. Towels and knee pads recommended.

Nicole: Through guided improvisation and choreographed exercises we will explore moving the body safely, efficiently, and dynamically throughout the space. Be ready to tune into your body’s sensations and challenge yourself to think and move in new ways.

Zaquia: Use technical exercises, improvisation, and partnered feedback to beyond the mechanics, think critically about the tools, make connections, and deepen sensory awareness as a means for honing artistry and dynamics. This class is about being curious, in community with others, and dancing to rad tunes!
