10:00am -11:30am: Workshop with Mirrored Fatality (BalletCenter Studio) A Performance / workshop of our sonic metamorphosis container, COCOON WEBS, an affirmation of chaos to harness our ancestral power, primal spirit, collective fury, and interconnectedness to our multiverse in a world numbing us with toxic forces. BLOOM, UTOPIA, INVALIDATION, REINCARNAGE, and EARTHBODY(S) are restorative anthems to sustain us through the revolution. For our workshop, we will have participants co-create a multimedia community altar and an immersive collective experience. We encourage participants to bring 1 or 2 offerings for their piece. (Ages 18+)
11:30am -12:30pm: Workshop with Avery Polster (BalletCenter Studio) Sharing stories and mining gestures, let's discover something beautiful together. Come share and feel inspired to create with the community. Movers of all skill levels and age engage in conversation and work on expanding creative tools for composition and gestural movement generation. Participants are invited to choose how to take class for themselves. All ages and abilities welcome.
12:00pm -1:30pm: Workshop with Jay Carlon (BalletCenter Studio) “queering technique, reclaiming space, decolonizing the body” What a title, huh? This class is a synthesis of my evolution and [re]discoveries as a movement artist navigating the white-contemporary art world as a queer, colonized body. We will focus on integrating attunement of external influences (architecture and space) with internal sensory embodiment. Participants will be asked to privilege imagination, tap into cellular awareness, practice doing-and-undoing, and rediscover primal presence and awareness.
2:00pm -3:30pm: Workshop with Marty Dorado (BalletCenter Studio) Finding and playing with movement with our naked selves can be a liberating experience. This all-levels, all-inclusive, clothes-free dance class features a guided improvisation and naked exploration of the self. All are welcome to begin class clothed and undress to their comfort as the class flows on. (Ages 18+)
4:00pm - 5:15pm: Performance #1 (Tenth Avenue Arts Center) Performance featuring local and touring dancers presenting works reflecting their intersectional experiences as artist in a typically heteronormative, Eurocentric field. Presented artists include: Guillermo Castro, Lavina Rich, Sebastian Eusebio Arredondo, Tylor Bradshaw, Sara Celaya, Alyssa Rose, Sol Dela Rosa, Bernard Brown, and featuring special guest performance by James Gilmer of Alvin Ailey.
5:15pm - 6:15pm: Panel Discussion (Tenth Avenue Arts Center) This conversation will center on collaborative dance performances. How are group performances speaking to a community? How do collaborative dance performances unsettling eurocentric ideals of dance? How are artists contesting cultural appropriation within dance collaborative efforts? How are artists challenging the dominant expectations among dance and performance circles? Facilitated by José Héctor Cadena.
7:00pm - 8:15pm: Performance #2 (Tenth Avenue Arts Center) Same program as 4pm show!
9:00pm - 10:00pm: Closing Party (Urban Mo's) Join us at Mo's to keep the celebration of queer art and community going!
