Research Seminar: Civic Investment in Driving Sustainable Growth

Thu 13 Nov 2025 10:00 AM - 1:00 PM Heritage House 2.05 - DMU UN SDG Hub, LE1 5RR

We invite you to join us for an Institute for Responsible Business and Social Justice (IRBSJ) research seminar on 'Civic Investment in Driving Sustainable Growth' at De Montfort University.

In this seminar, led by Professor Rachel Granger (Director of the IRBSJ), civic investment is framed as pivotal to developing sustainable communities. Civic investment refers to the financial and social capital directed towards cities through community-led projects and joint assets that strengthen local areas. Increasingly, it is referring to the imaginative models, through which local people are empowered to become primary investors and stakeholders in a city’s development plans.

Launching a report on ‘What Works in Civic Investment’, we will explore the role of local people as primary investors in community municipal investments, community bonds, impact investing, and crowdfunding, which are revolutionising urban renewal programmes, raise questions about decision-making, and have re-awaken citizens in considering the stake they have in building their towns and cities.

This event is being hosted at the DMU United Nations Sustainable Development Goals Hub (UN SDG HUB) in relation to the 30th United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP30) being held in Brazil. We are the global hub for SDG11.

If you have any questions about this research seminar, please reach out to the BAL Research and Innovation Office team at bal.rio@dmu.ac.uk
