Fancy seeing what Soviet architecture in Tadzhikistan and Uzbekistan looked like in the 1980s? Join us in Aberdeen and online for an evening with Central Asian photographic travel impressions, gathered by Barney Crockett.
Barney is a councillor and former Lord Provost of the City of Aberdeen and an Honorary Fellow of the Royal Incorporation of the Architects in Scotland. In the 1980s, he went on his honeymoon to Soviet Central Asia and was surprised by the scale and flamboyance of its modernist architecture and the commitment to restoring Islamic monuments. His talk will look at both and suggest possible motivations.
This event will be in person and streamed online. Tickets cost £7 / concession £5 / Docomomo members £3 in advance. The talk will take place at FortyTwo Studio, 35 Mid Stocket Road, Aberdeen. Please note that access to the lecture room is by stair.
