Wrecsam Photomarathon 2026 - FREE event

Join in on a FREE photography event, regardless of your age or ability, to take photos around the beautiful county of Wrexham. As long as you can take photos with a camera or camera phone, this competition is for you!

There will be 3 age groups, and 4 words/prompts to take a photograph of, which means there will be 12 winners who will all receive a £25 gift voucher!

Why take part in this event?

Through this competition, we want to see and showcase the beauty of Wrexham as well as the talented amateur photographers in the county. We think that Wrexham is a lovely place, with lots to see, do and appreciate and we want to counter the negative voices about Wrexham with lots of images that show its true beauty, history, people and potential.  

Photos submitted will have the opportunity to be used in the Wrecsam2029 City of Culture bid (consent will be asked during the registration process) and maybe used by Done Together CIC (the main organisers) regarding this and future Photomarathons.

What is involved?

You will receive 4 words, either in an envelope or by email. Your challenge is to take one photograph that represents each word and submit your four photographs within 3 hours, by 3.30pm. You can use props and you can use people as long as they specifically have agreed that their image can be included (you must not submit a picture of someone if they have not told you it is okay). You will need to email them to our email address photos@donetogether.co.uk with your name, date of birth and the word it represents for example Dai Davies 01/02/2010 - Look up. There is no right image as we want to see your interpretations of the words we give you, that way, its a challenge for everyone, regardless of how old you are, but the brilliant thing is, you can't get it wrong as its unique to you. 

Who can take part?

We will have three categories.

• Junior school children age 6 - 11 years old.
• Secondary school and college aged young people aged 11 - 17 years olds
• Adults aged 18+

Under 14's should be accompanied by an adult or carer during this event. All individuals taking part are responsible for their own safety and personal care. Please do not get yourself into danger, just to take a photo. 

This is an amateur photography competition however professionals are welcome to take part. They must indicate that they are professionals during the registration process and are not eligible to win the £25 prize however their photos will be displayed online and may be used by the Wrecsam2029 City of Culture bid. 

Who is involved?

Done Together CIC are the main organisers, supported by the Wrecsam2029 City of Culture Youth Forum members, and the event has been kindly funded by the Association of Voluntary Organisation in Wrexham (AVOW) Young Influencers and the Wrecsam Community and Culture Trust who are leading the Wrecsam2029 City of Culture bid. We are very grateful to have support from Wrexham & Brynteg Libraries who are providing the venues free of charge. 

What do I do next?

1. Register for the competition

2. On Saturday 22nd August, between 12-12.25pm, attend your chosen venue, to receive your words which will be in an envelope that you will open at 12.30pm!

Our venues are

* Wrexham Library, Rhosddu Road, Wrexham, LL11 1AU in the city centre by Coleg Cambria.

* Brynteg Library, Memorial Centre, Quarry Road, Wrexham, LL11 6AB.  

* Your home - you'll receive your words via email between 12.25 - 12.30pm.

3. Submit your photos to photos@donetogether.co.uk by 3.30pm, do not be late!

We will then judge the entries and you will hear from Done Together CIC by Monday 7th September 2026. All photos will be uploaded to a dedicated website where you will be able to see all the images that were submitted. Prizes will be sent by Friday 11th September to the winners.
