Thu 10 Sep 2026 6:15 PM - Thu 8 Oct 2026 7:45 PM All Saints Church Hall, Poyser Street, Wrexham, LL1 3 7RT

Have you ever wondered what you would do if someone made you feel uncomfortable, followed you, or grabbed you?

This friendly and supportive four-week course has been designed to help women and girls feel more confident, more aware of their surroundings and better prepared to deal with challenging situations. Whether you're a student, mum, lone worker, enjoy walking or running, travel alone, or simply want to gain valuable life skills, this course is for you.

You don't need to be fit, sporty or have any martial arts experience. The techniques taught are simple, practical and designed to work for people of all ages, sizes and abilities.

What you'll learn

Over four weekly sessions you'll explore:

✔ Street awareness and recognising potential danger

✔ How to appear confident and assertive

✔ De-escalation and avoiding confrontation where possible

✔ Personal safety strategies for everyday situations

✔ The law surrounding self-defence

✔ Practical techniques to escape common grabs and holds

✔ How to protect yourself and those around you

✔ Real-life scenarios and expert advice from experienced instructors

The course is delivered in a relaxed, supportive environment where questions are encouraged and everyone learns at their own pace.

Meet your instructors

The course is delivered by Chris Corcoran, retired Chief Superintendent with North Wales Police and Chief Instructor of the North Wales Police Self-Defence Clubs.

Chris has over 50 years' martial arts experience and holds a 7th Degree Black Belt in Kung Fu, alongside black belts in several other martial arts.

He is joined by experienced instructors Retired Police Superintendent Paul Jones and Hayley Scarrett, both senior black belts who have helped deliver highly successful self-defence courses across North Wales for many years.

Together, the team combines decades of policing experience with practical self-defence training, giving participants realistic, honest advice based on real-life situations.

A course that people asked for

Before launching this programme, Done Together CIC asked local people what they wanted from a self-defence course. The response was overwhelmingly positive, with many people asking for affordable, women-focused sessions that covered not only physical techniques, but also confidence, awareness and staying safe.

We're delighted to make this course available at a heavily subsidised cost, helping ensure these valuable skills are accessible to as many people as possible.

Places are limited to ensure everyone receives individual support and coaching, so early booking is recommended.

We look forward to welcoming you to Safe & Strong. Together, we'll build confidence, develop practical skills and help you feel safer in everyday life.
