Supplies available for purchase through instructor for $75 or purchased on your own. Additional items that may be necessary include mounting paper, erasers, eraser carving tools, and tracing paper.
Immerse yourself in the enjoyable and soothing world of Chinese painting with our engaging and captivating 5-class series. Join us to explore the unique materials and creative techniques of Chinese brush painting.
Under the expert guidance of Instructor Grace Lin, you will experience the diverse range of Chinese painting techniques using bamboo brushes, ink, and vibrant colors on rice paper.
Through five carefully designed projects, focusing on intriguing subjects such as birds, animals, pets, and flowers, students will advance from mastering fundamental techniques to developing their own artistic skills and confidence.
October 12 - Rooster, Seal/Stamp Design Demo
- Learn brushstroke techniques to capture the spirit of the rooster.
- Demo on Seal/Stamp name design, with time to practice at home.
October 19 - Landscape Techniques: Mountains, Trees, and Scenery with Houses
- Focus on landscape composition and design.
- Explore various brush techniques to create a perspective scene depicting natural landscapes.
October 26 - Horse
- Delve into the dynamic Freehand Style (Xieyi), known for its bold and spontaneous brushwork.
- Capture the energy and grace of a horse through controlled yet lively strokes, balancing strength and delicacy.
November 2 - Mounting Technique for Chinese Painting
- Master line brush strokes, focusing on detailed line control.
- Emphasize the strength, fluidity, and expressiveness of lines, crucial in depicting the dragon's power, movement, and grace.
- *Instructor will provide glue (wheat paste), tape, and board. Students will need to purchase mounting paper either independently or from the instructor ($2 for a full sheet of handmade Pi paper - Size: 54½"x 27½").*
November 9 - Chinese Dragon
- Master line brush strokes, focusing on detailed line control.
- Emphasize the strength, fluidity, and expressiveness of lines, crucial in depicting the dragon's power, movement, and grace.
Supply List
Supply kit: $75 (chosen by instructor) includes:
1. Bamboo Brushes: (3 brushes) - Orchid bamboo brush (large), Flow brush (large), Fine Detail brush (small)
2. Rice papers/Single Xuan/Shuen papers (2 full sheets of handmade paper) - Size: 54½"x 27½" (can be cut into 6 sheets of 17"x13.5", or 8 sheets of 13.5"x13.5")
3. Bottle Ink (black permanent liquid ink)
4. Small plastic Ink stone (or a small plate)
5. Maries 'Chinese' Watercolor (a set of 12 colors)
6. Plastic Blossom Palette
7. Bamboo brush roller

Class Policy:
Cancellation Policy: Drawn Studio reserves the right to cancel, combine, or reschedule classes to adjust for enrollment. If Drawn Studio cancels a class, you may transfer to another class or receive a full refund.
Refund Policy: Notice of withdrawal from a workshop must be made at least 14 days prior to the start of the class. No refunds will be given for withdrawals made after that time. No refunds or credits will be given for classes missed due to illness, personal conflict, or other reasons. There are no exceptions to this policy. Please email ryangreis@gmail.com if you wish to withdraw from a workshop.
