This engaging 2-hour session provides a focused exploration of the often-overlooked contributions of women in Renaissance art and culture. Through a concise yet rich overview, we will examine key figures like Sofonisba Anguissola and Artemisia Gentileschi, uncovering their achievements and the challenges they faced. Discussions will highlight women as artists, patrons, and subjects, offering insights into their influence on the artistic and cultural landscape of the period.
About the Instructor: Morgan Laughlin is an interdisciplinary artist and MFA student at Fontbonne University in St. Louis. Additionally, she serves as a teaching assistant under Victor Wang, where she contributes to the study and practice of painting and art history. Her work explores themes of identity, gender, and historical narratives, blending contemporary perspectives with classical techniques. With a passion for uncovering untold stories in art, Morgan brings a fresh and insightful approach to the study of women’s roles in Renaissance culture, making her an engaging and knowledgeable guide for this micro-class.
