DS Cafe COMMUNITY CALL: Exploring the Lucid Void and Sleep Staging with Portable EEG Headsets

For our February 2026 call, Dr. Sparrow and fellow dream researcher, Ryan Hurd, will describe their recent project working with portable Enchanted Wave headsets, which measure EEG signals during dreaming periods.

They will share the initial data from lucid dream sessions providing new information about the “lucid void” and sleep stages occurring during long lucid dreams, and they will describe the kinds of experiences they have been having and then recording using the Advanced Lucid Dream Induction Technique (ALDIT), which was pioneered during their previous groundbreaking study of 2018, establishing for the first time that the supplement galantamine increases the frequency of lucidity by about 2.5 times. For this research project, these experiences were then evaluated by a neuroscience consulting team.
