Master Cloud-Based Drone Mapping with Hands-On Training

Our Cloud-Based Mapping Class is designed to give you a complete, hands-on experience with modern drone mapping techniques using Site Scan by Esri. Over the course of three intensive days, you'll learn how to create high-quality 2D maps, orthomosaics, and geo-referenced models while mastering the essential principles of data acquisition and processing. We’ll dive deep into different geo-referencing methods, helping you understand how to match Ground Control Point (GCP) data with mapping outputs for optimal accuracy. You'll also gain experience in asset inspection, digital surface modeling (DSM), digital terrain modeling (DTM), and 3D textured mesh creation—all crucial skills for professional drone pilots looking to deliver high-value mapping solutions.

Through real-world exercises, you’ll put your skills to the test by mapping a construction site and a quarry/landscape supply company, performing volumetric measurements, and learning merging techniques for 3D models. You’ll compare outputs from Site Scan, Pix4DMapper, and DroneDeploy, gaining insight into which tools work best for different applications. By the end of the course, you'll have mastered the end-to-end workflow for cloud-based drone mapping, allowing you to confidently produce geo-referenced, high-accuracy deliverables. Whether you're mapping infrastructure, power lines, or cylindrical structures, you’ll walk away with the knowledge to optimize data acquisition, processing, and client-ready deliverables using Revit, VDC-based tools, and formulaic workflows tailored to different project needs.

Cloud Class Overview and Learning Outcomes

• Master the workflow for cloud-based mapping using the most prominent software options on the market.
• Develop geo-referencing skills and troubleshoot errors.

• Understand various drone mapping missions (e.g., infrastructure mapping, power lines, cylindrical structures).
• Gain expertise in integrating mapping data with software like Revit & VDC-based tools.
• Deliverable-based formulaic workflows: Identify client deliverables and apply the correct acquisition formula.

FLIGHT MASTERY (Day 1):

If you're looking to enhance your flight skills (and who among us doesn't need to enhance our flight skills), you can achieve it through our Flight Mastery Course on day 1. Our Flight Mastery course is a training based on our obstacle course built from 12 exercises to build confidence in students' ability to fly and make educated decisions in flight. The primary goal of the class is to teach students the strategies and techniques we've learned over the past several years that will enable students to fly with confidence and in a way that mitigates risk while pushing themselves to be the best pilot possible.

This course will focus on individual flight movements that aid in the development of a firm foundation of flight knowledge and experience. Participants will work with experienced pilots who will guide them through the process of improving their flight skills and understanding of UAV operations.

At the end of the Flight Mastery class, students will have the opportunity to fly our obstacle course and be tested on their abilities. This is a great opportunity to test yourself in a safe environment with expert feedback.

OPTIONAL VIDEOGRAPHY CLASS (Day 5):

Every drone pilot wants the confidence to capture smooth, cinematic video in any situation. On this day, you’ll get the chance to practice smooth flight motions, fine-tune your drone setup, and dial in the right settings to consistently capture epic footage.

You'll learn the 10 essential flight techniques, including smooth crane shots, dolly zooms, reveals, orbits, and more. This extra day is perfect for mastering the shots you need for any type of video production—whether it’s weddings, marketing promos, small business reels, or even commercials.

Class requirements:

• Computer - you will need a High performance Windows PC (Alienware, MSI, ASUS) with:
  • Strong GPU
  • 32GB RAM minimum
  • 12-core CPU
  • Mouse - this is critical for smooth and efficient workflow
• Drone(s) - Your preferred drone with a minimum of 4 batteries (the more the better).

• M30 / M30T
• M300 / M350 (H20T or P1 payload)
• Matrice 4 Enterprise / Thermal
• Phantom 4 Pro
• Wingtra, FreeFly Astro, Inspired Flight drones, Para-Anafi AI

Drones that are NOT supported include: Mavic 3 Pro / Cine; Air 3, 2, 3S; Mini series from DJI. These drones are not made for mapping.

Refund Policy:
You may receive a full refund LESS a $100 registration fee IF cancellation is requested by 6 PM MST 14 days prior to the start of the course. Any cancellation requests after this date are NOT refundable. Any non-refundable registration will be credited towards a future Drone U training event.
