Description
Bereaved through Addiction – Living With Loss
DrugFAM’s 15th Annual National Bereavement Conference 2023. Chaired by Gill Owen-Conway BEM.
The conference will feature speakers Peter Cartwright (Specialist Bereavement Counsellor and author), DrugFAM founder Elizabeth Burton-Phillips QVA MBE, Diane Benson, Dr Sangeeta Mahajan (Trustee of the national charity dedicated to the prevention of young suicide, PAPYRUS, and co-chair of the Suicide Prevention Group). We will also hear from Leo Bourne, Jack Cottam, Claire Chambers and Liz Robinson.
In addition to our speakers there will be songs from Ado Matheson, a presentation from Joe Wright on preparing for family events and the opportunity to break into small groups for sharing time. Later in the afternoon will be a time of reflection, where participants will be invited to bring a candle to the memory table.
This year we are also delighted to announce that we will have stalls on show throughout the day:
Tina's Haven: Tina's Haven was set up by Dr Sue Robson in memory of her daughter, Tina, who died in 2020, leaving behind her 8-year-old son Vinnie. The aim is to provide women separated from their children by trauma-based addiction with holistic and therapeutic support.
Stitch away the stigma: This is a creative art programme supporting anyone who loves someone with an addiction(s), representing voices that deserve to be heard. Each square tells a story. recoverywellnesscollective.org.uk
A good death: a collection of writings about death, dying, loss and grief that helps us to think and talk about the universal human experience. The project involves workshops, quiet reflection and writing to explore the culture of dying well. Researched and created by the University of Cambridge.
Lunch and refreshments are included and will be provided throughout the day.
