Thinking about building your own design system? In this intermediate training, you'll learn directly from experts who've actively contributed to the U.S. Web Design System (USWDS). We'll show you practical steps and share our insights and tips for creating and maintaining your design system. There will be code portions, but you don't have to be an engineer to get involved. We'll use tools like StorybookJS, USWDS, and Twig to build and document components. What You'll Learn

- Using USWDS as a foundation to create your own visual style guide
- Effectively extending and customizing components
- Design and build your own reusable components
- Best practices for documentation and establishing governance
Prerequisites
- Familiarity with HTML/Twig, SCSS/CSS, and vanilla JavaScript
- Foundational knowledge of web accessibility
For the exercises, you'll need:
- A laptop, ideally Linux, Windows Subsystem for Linux, or Mac
- A code editor, like VS Code
- The latest Long-Term Support (LTS) version of Node installed
