Agroforestry Tree & Shrub ID Intensive
Instructors: Amy Scanes-Wolfe, Nelson Heider-Kuhn, & Nick DiDomenico
Location: DAR Partner Farm in Longmont (address provided on registration)
Time: Sunday August 4th, 9:00am-12:00pm
Cost: $40
Once a year, we go through the 12,000 trees and shrubs planted in our agroforestry systems to count how many are alive and to track their growth rates. We are inviting you to join us for our census and a deep look at what’s going on in our dryland tree systems. This session will provide a lesson on how to identify the 15 species of trees and shrubs planted in our dryland systems, hands-on support to help you become a competent identifier, and training in how to measure tree growth rates and use that measurement to quantify carbon sequestered by the trees. You’ll also get to see and reflect with us up close on what affects tree survival, and which species are doing best in different soil conditions. We’ll also share data on which species have grown fastest and had highest survival rates across varying conditions on our partner sites to date. A useful technical session for those excited to implement their own agroforestry systems, brush up on tree ID, or play tree nerd with us for the day! Access to online notes and methodologies included.
