Roundtable Consultation | AIED and Edtech Procurement: Challenges for Policy and Governance
This roundtable consultation focuses on the social, economic, and political opportunities, challenges, and implications of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and educational technologies (Edtech) procurement in England. The event will be chaired by Dr Velislava Hillman, Founder of EDDS, LSE Fellow with involvement from Alyson Hwang, Senior Researcher at Policy Connect.
This is the first event of a two part series on Edtech procurement, organised by the Department of Media and Communications in collaboration with the Eden Centre and the Data Science Institute at LSE. Part two will be a public event in October where report findings will be discussed with the Information Commissioner's (ICO) and the Department of Education (DfE) to action the solutions that emerge.

WELCOME and INTRODUCTIONS
- Breakout 1: Current AI and Edtech governance and vetting challenges
GOOD PRACTICES: TWO DEMOS (Achilles Utilities Vendor Database and E-ACT Multi-Academy Trust)
- Breakout 2: Ways forward, action points (immediate and mid to long-term)
This roundtable consultation will be held under the Chatham House Rule and will focus on three overarching streams:
- Key issues and challenges in the current AI and Edtech procurement and Adoption
- Necessary next actions for immediate, and mid to long-term AI and Edtech procurement
- Policy proposal and report with recommendations and actionable points
We will aim to gather views, evidence, and proposals from key stakeholders in attendance to advance multi-stakeholder collaboration for policy development. This event will present the output from the consultation with the Information Commissioner’s Office and the Department for Education as actionable ways forward.
