In response to requests, this training is now available as an open workshop in the East of England - providing the ability for health and social care professionals to book individual places.
We a delighted to have secured the use of Bx Clinic to run this workshop - ideal space for the practical element of the session.
Who should attend this training? any professional who may be required to assess the vascular status of an individual.
This training offers a combined practical and theoretical workshop. Our aim is to provide a valuable day in an interactive and safe learning environment; enabling attendees to become familiar with the equipment, understand the rationale behind this assessment and it’s uses and limitations.
The workshop has been designed to build on the learner’s knowledge and understanding of diabetes and wound management; giving them ability to further assess the vascular status of an individual to establish or exclude the presence of peripheral arterial disease (PAD). The workshop covers:
- The rationale behind undertaking an ABPI assessment
- The principles of Doppler Ultrasound
- Detecting a healthy artery and different waveforms using a doppler
- Preparing a patient for an ABPI assessment
- Carrying out an ABPI assessment in a clinical setting
- Measuring, calculating and interpreting the ABPI
- Factors that may influence the accuracy of an ABPI reading
- When not to carry out an ABPI assessment
- An introduction to Toe Pressures/Toe Brachial Pressure Index (TBPI) Assessment
- The rationale behind performing a Toe pressures/Toe Brachial Pressure Index (TBPI) assessment
- Carrying out a TBPI assessment in a clinical setting
- Measuring, calculating and interpreting the TBPI
- Practical demonstrations
The session will be run by an experienced Podiatrist.
Please be prepared to bare your arms and feet…
The training includes a “hands on equipment” practical session where each learner will be supported by and observed by the educator in order to confirm you have demonstrated the ‘core skills and capability’ (in the classroom setting).
Tea and coffee will be provided (along with biscuits and fruit!), however please bring along your own 'picnic lunch'.
There is a car park at the venue.
Each attendee will receive a printed ‘delegate pack’ including various supporting documentation such as 'useful links/resources' and a 'top tips' sheet. Electronic attendance certificates will also be issued after the event.
