Diabetic Foot Screening Open Workshop, Coventry

In collaboration with Healthy Feet Mobile Clinic, we are delighted to be facilitating this popular workshop on World Diabetes Day - 14 November!

Who should attend this training? The session is relevant for anyone working in a health or social care role who supports or treats people living with diabetes (particularly useful for people involved in undertaking diabetes reviews), such as:

• Foot Health Practitioners
• Podiatrists
• Chiropodists
• Healthcare Assistants/Care Assistants/Support workers
• Nurses/Nurse Assistants/Nurse Associates
• Pharmacists

This is an accredited workshop (6 CPD credits).

Diabetic foot checks are part of the regular ‘key care processes’ everyone living with diabetes should receive.

Using NICE guidelines as a framework, this evidence based workshop aims to equip you with the knowledge and skills to competently examine and screen the diabetic foot for potential and actual problems.  

It’s not just the theory! In an interactive and safe learning environment, you will be putting your new knowledge into practice.

The workshop covers:

• The definition of a foot ulcer
• The economic and personal cost of developing a foot ulcer
• When foot screening should be performed
• The factors contributing to someone developing a foot ulcer
• The method and steps to take when examine the diabetic foot
• National diabetic foot risk algorithms
• How to apply the correct risk classification
• Suitable footwear for people with diabetes
• The causes of neuropathy and peripheral arterial disease (PAD)
• How to test for neuropathy and PAD
• Practical demonstration on how to undertake a ‘diabetic foot screening’ check
• The Ipswich Touch Test and the Neuropad® screening test
• The process of referral for the person with diabetes at each level of risk and advice to give
• Daily footcare
• Examples of diabetic foot related literature and products

Please be prepared to bare your feet…

The training includes a “hands on feet” practical session where each learner will be observed by the educator (an experienced podiatrist) in order to confirm you have demonstrated the ‘core skills and capability’ (in the classroom setting).
