Twisted-vintage started with 2 friends (Caroline & me) in 2008 with the thought of “How can I turn these inherited pieces of jewellery which are dated and not my kind of style into something more contemporary and fun?” The response of friends was so positive that what began as a hobby slowly turned into a business. When it became a more time involving business I continued on my own.

My inspiration for my designs mainly come from the vintage components I find. They often dictate where they want to sit in each new design and how I should make them ‘shine again’. For example I love using vintage belt buckles, which I turn into the centre piece for my ‘tie-design’ necklaces, where they resemble the ‘knot’ of the tie. (See photos under ‘tie-necklace collection in my shop). I also love architectural shapes and often combine different shapes to create structural forms. As well as mixing metals, putting gold and silver or copper tones next to each other. This for me adds a playfulness and makes the design more exciting and versatile to wear.

I love finding these old treasures and giving them a new lease of life, saving them from being thrown away. And don’t you think it adds to its charm that each piece is unique and nobody else will have the same?

The most important thing for me is that wearing my jewellery makes people feel happy, special and brightens up their day.
