Dunham Apples Wassail 2025!
Sat 4 Jan 2025 4:00 PM - 9:00 PM
Dunham Apple Barn, WA14 5SJ
Description
Join us on Saturday, January 4th, 2025, for a night steeped in tradition at the Dunham Apples Wassail. Held in our picturesque orchard at Boundary Farm, Sawpit Street, this ancient ceremony is a celebration of good health, community, and the hope for a bountiful apple harvest in the coming year. Starting from 4:00 PM, our Wassail promises an unforgettable evening filled with music, food, and cider in the heart of the orchard.
What to Expect:
• Torch-lit Procession: As the evening begins, gather for a torch-lit procession through the orchard, led by the Bollin Morris. Together, we’ll make plenty of noise to ward off any spirits and awaken the trees from their winter slumber.
• Traditional Ceremony: At 4:45 PM, we’ll gather in the orchard for the traditional Wassail blessing. With chants, songs, and a toast to Pomona, the apple goddess, we’ll ensure a fruitful harvest for the coming year.
• Live Music and Dancing: Enjoy the sounds of the lively Neezzupp Ceilidh Band, keeping spirits high as we join in with the traditional Morris dancing.
• Delicious Food and Drink: Included with your ticket is a delicious hog roast and wood-fired pizza. Enjoy a warming cup of mulled cider or apple juice—other drinks will be available for purchase throughout the evening.
• Support a Great Cause: A portion of the proceeds from ticket sales will be donated to Teenage Cancer Trust. Last year, our community helped raise over £2,000, and we hope to exceed that this year!
Ticket Options:
• Adults: £15 per person + booking fee
• Children (5-16 years): £10 per child + booking fee
• Under 5s: Free entry (no need to book)
• Pensioners: £10 per person + booking fee
• Family Ticket: £45 (2 adults and 2 children) + booking fee
Parking and Directions:
Parking is limited at the Apple Barn, so we recommend using the Trans Pennine Trail Car Park on Sawpit Street, parking on Back lane near the Rope and Anchor or better still by public transport using the 280 bus.
This year’s Wassail is a perfect way to connect with nature, enjoy time with family and friends, and embrace the spirit of tradition. With only 300 tickets available, be sure to secure yours early to be a part of this special evening.
Please Note: Your ticket includes a donation to charity, as well as a portion of hog roast, wood-fired pizza, and mulled cider or apple juice. Additional donation boxes will be available around the event to help us raise even more for the Teenage Cancer Trust. We appreciate your support in making a difference! Please dress warmly and wear appropriate footwear, as the event will be held outdoors in the orchard. We look forward to celebrating with you!
