Description
This funny, gripping, and often heartbreaking play charts the personal journeys of four very different women who sign up to become Land Girls, determined to “do their bit” for King and Country. They worked on farms all over Britain, long backbreaking hours, in all kinds of weather, far from home and unfamiliar with farm life, outsiders in these challenging circumstances: clothes full of mice, slurry in their boots, lambing, milking, harvesting, sustained by their camaraderie and sheer strength of character.
Based on hundreds of letters and interviews with the original WW2 Land Girls, this play is a tribute to the ‘unsung’ heroes of Britain’s Women’s Land Army, sometimes called the forgotten army. Their stories are animated with songs and broadcasts from the period.
