Dyslexia and the classroom: for probationary teachers
Dyslexia and the Classroom: an introduction for probationary teachers
If you are a probationer - or even a more experienced educator - looking to refresh your practice, this workshop is here to build your confidence. We will walk you through the online Addressing Dyslexia Toolkit for Scottish teachers, focusing on how to navigate the identification pathway and what to spot in a busy classroom. You will get a clear, simple structure for noticing needs early and taking the right steps.
To properly support learners with dyslexia, we need to understand how it feels to be dyslexic and the exhausting barriers faced every day. Through quick simulations and case studies, you will step into their shoes to see how a heavy cognitive load and tricky working memory make standard school tasks overwhelming. You will experience how normal lesson delivery can turn into an uphill battle when a student with dyslexia faces literacy barriers and environmental stress.
You will leave with a toolkit of immediate small adjustments you can make to your everyday teaching to help students with dyslexia learn with confidence. We will focus on practical changes to classrooms and delivery that target specific barriers to dyslexia. These modifications are designed to be low preparation whilst making learning accessible for your whole class.
This free event will take place on Zoom. It will not be recorded.
