Left-handed children can face challenges in the classroom that make it harder for them to meet expected levels and demonstrate their true academic potential. From handwriting and smudging to using scissors and developing hand skills, simple difficulties can have a real impact on a child's confidence, speed and ability to keep up with classroom expectations.

This practical webinar with Mark Stewart, owner of Left 'n Write, will explore the challenges left-handed children can face and give simple strategies to give every child an equal opportunity to succeed.

The session will cover:

  • Understanding left-handedness and laterality
  • Potential classroom difficulties for left-handed children
  • Scissors and useful techniques
  • Handwriting challenges and solutions
  • Resources to support left-handed learners

You’ll have the chance to try out activities using both hands, explore your own laterality and discover why seemingly simple tasks, such as using scissors and handwriting, can be more challenging for left-handed children.

You’ll need a pencil or pen and a pair of scissors. We also recommend printing the accompanying activity sheet so you can take part fully during the session.

About Mark Stewart

Mark has over three decades of experience training educators and supporting families with left-handed writing. His interest began through supporting his own left-handed son, alongside his wife Heather, and discovering how little practical guidance was available within the UK education system.

Mark has co-written the Left Hand Writing Skills set of three handwriting practice books and So You Think They’re Left-Handed?, as well as designing the Writewell mat. In 2021, he co-founded LEFT-IN.org, a global interest group working to improve information and education for those supporting left-handed children.

This free webinar is ideal for parents, teachers, teaching assistants, SENCOs and anyone supporting left-handed children.

There will be a live Q&A at the end of the presentation, where you can ask any further questions.
