The British Academy Early Career Researcher Network brings together ECRs across the humanities and social sciences disciplines, regardless of their funding source or background.

Call for Presentation

This is an annual event providing a platform for all ECRs nationally in SHAPE disciplines working on the theme of ‘Sustainability’ with an opportunity to come together to network, learn about each other’s research, collaborate, and exchange ideas about how to tackle critical issues in the decarbonisation transition to a more sustainable future.

The scope of this event is to enhance the overarching theme of ‘Sustainability’ with a focus on alleviating inequalities, delivering on co-benefits, engaging the public and communities with effective communication to adopt decarbonising measure, and leveraging digital technology, big data and AI to decarbonise at scale.

Previous Sustainability Multidisciplinary Meetups have successfully taken place in 2023 and 2024 at the University of Lincoln and University of West of England, Bristol respectively. In 2024, we have established a SHAPE ECR consortium 'SHAPEing Net Zero', exploring broader issues of a sustainable future and climate justice.

Location: University of West of England city campus, Bristol

Themes for presentation include but not limited to:

  • Climate justice, social justice and a just transition
  • Digital technology, big data and AI to decarbonise at scale
  • Decentralised and grass-root decarbonisation measures
  • Delivering on health, wellbeing and other co-benefits
  • Circularity, retrofit at scale
  • Climate narrative, storytelling

We welcome presentations showing novel approaches/outcomes/impacts such as:

  • Co-design and coproduction
  • Socio-technical approaches
  • Place-based approach
  • Community and industry engagement
  • Policy impact and governance
  • Interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary approaches
